Changing Seasons

Once again, the seasons are changing;  these autumnal days remind us that we are changing too, each and every day. The trees are about to put on their biggest pageant of the year, changing from summer’s garb to fall’s most exquisite wardrobe. There will be luminous gold leaves to don the trees, magnificent burgundies, the color of deep, red wine, and tangerine teasers to complete the ensemble. From the looks of things, change is good, yes?

I always think of fall as that season where we embrace change in a positive and uplifting way. The trees eventually shed their leaves;  we can shed bad habits.

For me, summer is that vagabond season full of adventure. I think of fall as a time for ‘settling in’, as the cold weather approaches, and we prepare for the upcoming holidays.

More than anything, autumn rekindles childhood memories of going back to school in September. There would always be new things to learn, new friends to meet, and new discoveries to be made. As much as I hated to see summer end, I looked forward to the start of a brand-new school year.

Like the trees with arms outstretched to embrace each new season, so too, should we embrace the changing seasons in our lives. Each day offers the chance to learn something new, just as it did when we were young. Every day, there are miracles happening all around us. Sometimes, the miracles are happening inside us, as we relinquish past hurts and bruised egos.

The autumn air is deliriously fresh. That first snap of cold weather seems to awaken our senses. We are so blessed to begin a new season in our lives.  Maybe, something altogether different is on our fall horizon. Who knows? The winds of change are definitely stirring.

I do know that I look forward to nature’s pageant, and although summer is a wonderful companion, autumn is the dearest of friends. It is the autumn breeze that reminds us to let go of everything that holds us back. It is a wondrous breeze that knows we must keep going, no matter what.

The seasons change, and so do we, each and every day. Thank God for new beginnings and the chance to start over again and again.

  1. I’m still a bit surprised that it’s time for Fall, since summer flew by so quickly. But I agree with you, the changing seasons are mostly a chance for new beginnings. And that is always a gift!

    1. Summer did go by fast this year! It seems all the seasons come and go in a hurry. All we can do is try to enjoy the moments along the way.
