I wait each and every year for my blue hydrangea to bloom.
Only then, will it be June; only then, will I know that summer is on its way.
It is such a lovely thing, with deep-green velvet leaves, and the bluest flowers you have ever seen.
The blossoms tug at my heart, the remembrance of so many things, days gone by, but not forgotten.
On many a day in June, that hydrangea stood poised and stoic at a gala occasion; there were graduations, and weddings, and babies to be born, as the music played on.
Odd, it is not the red roses that call to me, or the graceful Asian lilies, who visit just in summer, like long-awaited company.
No, it is always the blue hydrangea, bluer than the summer sky, marking time; it is a wondrous companion, who drifts upon the scene, dressed in party clothes.
A bride must have something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue.
In June, I must have these things too; I need my memories of days gone by, new reasons to celebrate, and my blue hydrangea, a gift, I know, that is on borrowed time.
“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.”:Ecclesiastes 3:1
They are so lovely! And so is your thoughtful reflection about them π
Thank you! I take lots of pictures of my flowers because each thing is for such a short time. The older I get, the more plants and flowers I learn about. And then I think, oh my goodness, how did I miss that one?
It makes me smile to think of the Lord watching with delight at each discovery you make and seeing you enjoying them so much π
Yes! God delights in our joys and discoveries. Just as we love to see our own children as they grow and mature, God likes to celebrate with us. A pastor once remarked in a sermon that God wants us to eat cake, as well as bread. Birthday cake and wedding cake, to name just a few…wonderful additions to our daily bread on special occasions.
I really, really like what that pastor said. Yes He does! Our daily bread, and our special treats for rejoicing. Thank you for sharing that!
God is good. He is always good. He wants the very best for us. π
Yes, yes, and yes!!! Thank You Daddy God!
It is a pleasure to witness your joy from the Blue Hydrangea. Thank you for sharing.
I find great joy in the garden. I cannot predict what will and what will not bloom. Still, there is such magic and mystery with a garden and I like that. You find surprises you never expected; like life itself, you just never can tell what will flourish and when.
That is gorgeous! Sadly, our hydrangia only blooms once in a while, and I never get the blue flowers! Still, as you say, everything happens in its own time and for a reason….Faith really is the answer!
So true! We wait for many things, but faith does not fail us ever! We are so blessed! I thank God every day for His gifts…sunshine and rain, blue skies and clouds. We do not always know why things go the way they do, but we can always trust that God is in control.
Nice post….both photos and words!
Thank you! I do appreciate your comments! π
A lovely reflection on the passage of time, remembrance, and renewal. And of course those blue hydrangeas!
Thank you! Those blue hydrangeas do spark many memories for me! It is odd, but the littlest things can trigger so many emotions…flowers, a place we love, a song we heard long ago.
