Waiting

It is as if the whole world were standing still; we are waiting for baby Henry to arrive.

I do not know what color his eyes will be, or if his fingers will be short, or long.

I do know this; I think I have loved him since forever, before the mention of his name.

In the land of babies, day is night, and night is day; why would little Henry be any different?

The world keeps turning, day by day, and we wait, expectant grandparents; the sun and moon seem indifferent to our plight.

Who knew that age does not matter when it comes to the pitter-patter of little feet?; why should it matter whose heart those tiny feet dance upon?

It is the autumn of my life, and a season like no other; I wait, as if on tiptoe on top of the world.

I wait, as if the very stars in the sky were bursting on the Fourth of July; I am waiting for baby Henry to arrive.

“Behold, I am doing a new thing…” Isaiah 43: 19

This poem is a tribute to little Henry who has at long last arrived! Every grandchild is a gift from God and one to be cherished.

  3. I tried to leave a comment, but it hasn’t appeared…I think Word Press is acting up. But in case you see this one: He is so cute! And yes, I agree that grandchildren are a gift to be cherished, loved and enjoyed!

    1. I am so enjoying this stage of life with grown children. Seeing them start their own families is awe-inspiring. Life comes full-circle in a beautiful way. God is good!

  4. Definitely a real gift and such a cutie, congratulations!

You look somehow familiar Linda …

    1. I have been told by so many people in my life that I look like someone they know. Once, a woman actually argued with me when I told her I did not know her. LOL Too funny. Thank you! All the little ones are such a joy!

      1. How many do you have? Sounds like a tribe πŸ™‚

        1. Only three, and one on the way! Like all of us, each one is unique, and that is the special part. I had four children and they are all very different from one another. I think that is what makes families fun…the mix of personalities. It is the same with the grandchildren; each one is cherished for their own individuality. When we celebrate the birth of a baby, we celebrate the fact that this is a brand-new person. It is a miraculous one of a kind thing…no two exactly the same. Even twins, are often very different.

          1. good for you, my mother is old school and still claims she loves us all exactly the same when obviously she doesn’t … each different personality is endearing for various reasons πŸ™‚

          2. So true…the gift is in the differences. You know I love gardening, and I think a family is kind of like a garden…sometimes, it is messy in a beautiful way. There are all kinds of flowers, and like people, they do not thrive on the same things. Some like the bright spotlight and thrive in the sun. Some like the shade and a quiet space in the universe. When we appreciate that a rose is lovely, but no lovelier than a sun flower, we are blessed to enjoy them both.

          3. ooh very wise words Linda … I pray that all parents are more like you πŸ™‚

          4. The parent job is not an easy one and it requires great patience. But, there is so much joy to be found when we accept that we all experience life in a profound and personal way. This is okay. This is how it is supposed to be. Our feelings are not wrong, just unique to our own perception of the world. πŸ™‚

          5. resonates deeply with my philosophy Linda, live and let live!

    1. Thank you! I loved raising my four children. I never could have imagined what it would feel like to be a grandparent. When you see your child holding their own child, there is a feeling of bliss. The circle is complete in an incredible way.
