In life, there are always times when we come to a crossroads; we are at a place where we must make a difficult decision. It could be anything from a major life change, like moving across the country, or taking a new career path. It might mean making an important decision concerning our health, or the health of a loved one. These are hard choices, and they can be very stressful. The important thing to remember is that we are never alone, although there is much unsettled business in our lives. God is there as the wind currents swirl around us; He will stand with us, whatever the upheaval.
When we come to these crossroads, we sometimes fear taking even one step forward. Like Dorothy in the ‘Wizard of Oz’, we feel a long way off from our comfort zone. We know that we are no longer in ‘Kansas’; in fact, home seems distant and we have no idea which way to go. Our ‘yellow brick road’ seems to go in circles, instead of moving us forward.
Even worse than Dorothy, we discover our adventure is more like that of Alice, in the wonderful children’s book by Lewis Carroll, ‘Alice in Wonderland’. We know the feeling of being suddenly down the proverbial ‘rabbit hole’. We find ourselves in a surreal new environment where everything is topsy turvy. Why? We have come face to face with a major life-changer, one we did not see coming. Now, we have to deal with it, and the consequences have a big impact, no matter which way we go.
I think of the Cheshire cat in Lewis Carroll’s tale of Alice’s adventures. The cat says at one point, “Some go this way. Some go that way. But as for me, myself, personally, I prefer the short cut.” Many times in life, we do not have such a short cut. Our choices are not clear-cut, so to speak. And we know, that whichever way we go, there will be some tough patches to get through.
There in the midst of the chaos, God waits quietly for us to come to Him. He waits patiently for us to unburden our problems because He cares so deeply for us. He enters the winds that swirl around us and He takes us by the hand.
It is there in His presence that we find peace no matter the crossroads where we find ourselves lost and uncertain. Our every footstep matters to God. His angels hover ever near to us. God Himself makes a path for us when we do not know where to turn or what to do next.
The crossroads are a place where we must trust that God is in control. He knows best and He will walk alongside us as we take those first steps. In life, the hard times come; the ‘rabbit holes’ feel all too real. The good news is that there is no ‘rabbit hole’ where God cannot find us. There is no ‘Land of Oz’ where He will not journey with us when the sights seem unfamiliar.
The ‘crossroads’ can weigh heavy upon our hearts; fear and gloom may come to prey, trespassers, God wants to banish. Isaiah 43:2-3: “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown.” When we come to a crossroads in life and we do not know which way to go, it is then that we kneel at the feet of Jesus; we turn our turmoil over to Him and we rest in His presence. Only then, do the shadows pass and we find our way. Only then, do we know that home is a thing of the heart, where God instructs our passage, one footstep at a time.
change can clear away a few cobwebs …
Yes…the cobwebs obscure the sun from shining through. Always, we must seek the light, especially when things seem dim. We must refocus and begin again.
perfect way of saying it ๐
Wishing you a good weekend!!! ๐
thanks and you!

I have learned that when I say, “Yes, Lord. I will do this scary thing that you are asking of me.” The path becomes straighter & the fog begins to clear.
Well, I believe you have brought tears to my eyes! Our Heavenly Father is so good, so full of mercy. When we feel the most fragile, He lifts us up and carries us. Yes, the fog of the world does shift and He opens our eyes to His love. It is enough. His love carries us through the turbulent storms that threaten to overtake us. We follow where He leads and the mist clears before us.
God bless you, my friend.
And may He bless you! Thank you for your words that have inspired me this day!
A great Reminder Linda. Especially for those of us who sail glibly right through the crossroads and end up on a dead end trail. I’m prone to wander…sigh
You know the saying, “Not all those that wander are lost.” Knowing that God is with us wherever we may wander is what counts. The wilderness is there for all of us; may we know we never venture out alone. There on the open trail, God waits. He is always waiting for us…that is the beauty of our journey down every road we ever walk.
In the crossroads, I feel it helps if I can become still, be silent. This is where I can begin to listen to myself and possibly something else and sort out the paths. I am at the crossroads now, with huge life changes approaching. Stay calm – the right path will manifest. ๐ฌ๐ฆ
You are so right…As scripture reminds us, it is when we are still, that God is closest to us.(Psalm 46:10) He knows our every thought, but when we are quiet, we hear our own thoughts as well. In communion with Him, we find our way. Praying for you as you stand at a crossroads, knowing that God will lead you every step of the way.
So well written, Linda. There’s no place like home. God’s grip – Alsn
Great comment!!! Hope you have a good weekend! Yes…there is no place like home.

๐ ๐ ๐ So glad you stopped by!
My pleasure!!!!!!!!!!!!
Considering all the voices that are telling us to be very, very afraid these days, this is a very timely message of hope and faith. There really is no problem that we can’t deal with as long as we lean on God…
So true Ann…There is much in life that we do not understand; knowing that God is control and that we can trust Him, makes the impossible in our lives, possible. Each mountain we come to, He stands with us, helping us make the climb.
