Easter Monday Reflections

The sun is rising, a beautiful day!

Blue skies reign, light flooding the hidden spaces.

The whole world is washed clean and fresh; sparkles of dew shimmer like tiny beacons.

I feel that hush, that breath of life, that fills my being.

It is a new day, a fresh start, the garden of life begins anew.

The garden is full of wonder; small creatures awake, a little bird sings.

It is Easter Monday, and a whole flock of songbirds rise to sing and tell the story.

The garden never sleeps; our Heavenly Father tends to the daily chores.

The stone removed, our hearts give way to love; the garden gate stands open.

I touch the trellis of roses, feel their immaculate wonder.

I am not alone in the garden; the angels too, keep watch.

Grace reigns here; beads of gratitude linger like the morning dew.

I trust the light; I wander deep into the garden.

There is One who hears my footsteps, knows my fears.

In the breath of morning, He takes my hand, shows me the way.

It is my Risen Lord who plucks the roses; He takes the thorns, and gives me only the velvet flowers.

“Yours to keep”, He whispers.

Such lovely roses, fit for eternity; they are the deepest red, passionate petals of the purest love.

Luke 24:5-7: “Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?” He is not here, but risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, “The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day, rise again.”

  1. What a beautiful message! It gave me a few goosebumps at the end! Today one of my best friends is in the hospital with another hurdle in her cancer journey, news that her metastatic colorectal cancer is growing….and we shared tears over the phone early this morning. As I read your poem, I felt that comfort of the Spirit, the brush of angels’ wings and the whisper of God’s voice. There are so many things in this life that are hard to accept and understand, and this is one of those times. I appreciate your words of truth, peace, and beauty on this Easter Monday. It is a comfort having you in my life, even though we have never met. Blessings to you, my soul sister.

    1. I am praying for your friend! It is true that there is so much that we do not understand. God is there, in the midst of it all. He hears our every prayer. We turn everything over to Him, knowing that He knows us better than we know ourselves. His mercy is great, and not a single tear escapes His heart. We trust our hearts to Him, and the river of life flows through us. No matter what, this river of love sustains us all our days; it has no end. I wish you blessings also; although we have not met in person, our souls have met. In the divine providence of God, all things are possible. We must just believe.

    1. It has been a difficult year for people the whole world over. In the words of Emily Dickinson: “Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without the words, and never stops at all.”

    1. Yes! God does meet us in the garden! In these early days of spring, there is so much change… I am always amazed at how quickly things grow!

    1. Yes, it was exactly that! We went to a garden church service and it was beautiful. It has been so long since we have been to church! It has been even longer since we took communion. There is that Helen Steiner Rice quote…”Peace on earth will come to stay, when we live Christmas every day.” It could be said of Easter as well. We must carry Easter in our hearts every day of the year.

    1. Thank you! You are right…God’s handiwork is amazing! I just thought of the quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson: “The earth laughs in flowers.” It is such a lovely way to think of spring flowers…the tulips and daffodils, to name just a few! 🙂
