The dizzy dance of days gone by…
ripples in a deep blue sea.
Like soft spun glass
the memories shimmer.
Morning comes so gracefully in summer…
The wind whispers in soft snippets.
I like to listen…there might be something
I need to hear.
The hydrangeas are enchanting,
dreamy puffs of petals
pink, and blue, and purple.
All the best things are outside in summer,
tiny white butterflies, flowers to cradle the bees,
and the whispering wind, full of sighs and blue sky wishes.

June is such a lovely month! The blush of summer is upon us in the early morning dew, the sweet taste of peaches, and the promise of many beach days ahead. The first official day of summer is not until Friday, June 20th…but it certainly feels like summer has arrived!
My hydrangeas are all in bloom and they are delightful! This year, in addition to my blue hydrangeas, some are pink, and some are purple. I saw an arrangement recently where Magnolia blooms were mixed with blue hydrangeas. It was a stunning combination!
It made me think about all the opportunities around us to try up something new…often with things within easy reach. Just as we can ‘mix’ the flowers from our summer gardens, we can create a ‘summer of 2025 mix’ of our favorite things. We can blend old traditions with some brand-new memories in the making.
No matter how old we get, we can always learn something new. We can plan grand summer adventures, but we can also add some ‘summer spice’ to our lives on a daily basis. Sometimes, it is the little things that make such a difference.
What if we intentionally seek out happy summer things as enthusiastically as we did when we were kids? Once school was out, we found endless ways to celebrate summer. Children instinctively know how to have fun! All we needed was a sprinkler on a hot day, marshmallows to roast over a fire, lots of watermelon to eat, and time to ourselves to explore the great outdoors.
We are no longer children, but we can learn valuable lessons from them. There is always work to do, and things to be done. Taking little breaks here and there can help us accomplish more in the long run.
At this moment, summer is spread out before us as a grand invitation. As we open that invitation, may we be open to the grandeur God has gifted us with. June will come, and June will go. The fireflies will soon arrive, little sparks of wonder. We cannot change all the problems of the world, but we can step outside barefoot and feel the grass beneath our feet…We can take a few minutes to watch the clouds float across a blue sky. It is taking time for the ‘little things’, that helps us cope with the ‘big things.’
The world of summer is full of endless wonders, dreams to tuck within our hearts, and the simple pleasures only this season can offer. If we make room in our lives to slow down and listen to that whispering summer breeze, who knows what we may learn?
Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there! We give thanks to our Heavenly Father for His blessings in every season of our lives!
James 1:17: “Every good gift, and every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”

Those hydrangeas are indeed enchanting. In Iowa the elderberries are beginning to bloom, perfuming my sunrise walk.
First of all, hour hydrangeas are gorgeous! We had one in our back yard that bloomed beautifully one year, but after that we rarely saw flowers. But what I really loved about this post was the way it made me remember the Summers of my childhood. You’re right, we did our best to have fun on those days when school was out and the weather was warm! And I like how you gently remind us that we can still experience the joy of Summer, even as adults, if we just try. I’m going to do that this year….
