A Walk in the Garden at Dawn

The wind stirs; flowers dance; a parade of colors unfolds.

It is the same with life itself; a newborn cries, no matter the color; it is love at first sight.

We walk in the garden as children, by day or by night; moonbeams cast their glow; sunbeams light our path.

Deep in the garden we wander; we learn the steps of love; we trace a constellation of stars upon our hearts.

We glitter too, like those stars of love; we reach for each other’s hands; our fingers entwine, vines on a tree of life.

We shine in the darkness; we are bold and beautiful; we know the cry of the newborn is our own deep cry to begin again and start anew.

God hears our plea; like the brush of a butterfly, He comforts us; dawn comes upon us in a sudden sweep of wonder.

The garden walk is not so very long; we remember to pause and reflect as the universe urges us on; eternity was laced around our hearts from the very beginning.

The wind stirs, a Holy Wind, like no other; we feel the very breath of God in the garden; our feet dance, a parade of colors unfolding.

How blessed are we to walk in the garden; how blessed are we to share this garden with one another; how blessed are we with moonbeams and sunbeams, and an everlasting constellation of stars to light our way.

  1. Those pictures really add to your poem. Did you take the puctures? Are theybin your garden?

    1. Yes! All of these photos are from my yard. Right now, my favorite thing is blooming…it is my blue hydrangea. I love roses, but I wait all year for that hydrangea to blossom. In a garden, there is always a bit of mystery…some plants just take off, and some do not do as well. My hydrangea is huge and very old. It was a gift from a gardening friend.

      1. I love blue hydrangeas! They’re fairly rare around here. We mostly have the white ones.

        1. I love them all! I have made wreaths with the dried flowers…so pretty! You do need to use a lot of them to make a wreath.

          1. I have arrangements of the dried flowers in vases, but I’ve never heard of making a wreath with them! I just Googled, and sure enough, I found instructions.

          2. The hydrangeas are really nice in a wreath. When they are dried, the colors are sort of muted, and they hold up well because of their size. I used pins to put them in a foam wreath. I placed them close together. I kept the wreath indoors. 🙂

          3. It sounds as though making the wreath is relatively simple?

          4. Yes! It is easy to make and it lasts for quite a while. 🙂

  2. Beautiful photographs. Beautiful reminder that we can walk in the garden with God at any time. 🙂

    1. Thank you! Yes, walking in the garden with God is one of life’s greatest joys. Yesterday, a butterfly stayed by me for a very long time. It is mesmerizing to watch them float from flower to flower. You remember God’s artistic touch in all that He has created.

  3. Thank you for the cheerful blossoms.

    1. The garden is a happy place. Sometimes, it is hard for me to come back inside the house! There is a lot of work, but it is so rewarding.

  4. Thank you, Linda. I feel like I was there. God’s grip – Alan

    1. I am glad! 🙂 This time of year so much is in bloom. As one thing fades, another begins. This is my favorite season.

  5. This was such a beautiful and atmospheric piece. Lovely photos as well 🙂

    1. Thank you! I take lots of pictures of flowers…so many varieties. So much beauty in nature…bees in the clover, birds singing, clouds that drift overhead. We are so blessed!

    2. Thank you! I lose track of time when I am out in the garden. There is always so much more I could be doing elsewhere in the yard. It is a never-ending project…but one that is a lot of fun!

  6. I really enjoyed your lyrical meditation on walking in your garden. It reminded me of the hymn “Morning Has Broken.”

    1. That is a beautiful hymn! 🙂

      1. Yes, it’s a favorite of my family.
