There isn’t any snow yet, but if snowflakes were to fall
could they all be wishes, drifting, floating, swirling, like heavenly
dreams come true?
Could a New Year begin, a place to make fresh tracks in the snow,
a song within our hearts gently stirring?
Can we start a love story, with prayers ever on our lips,
that with God’s help, we can each make the world a better place?
I can see the snowflakes dancing, the winter stage set for new beginnings:
the wishes have no end, a blur of feathery wonder.
It is a soft place to land, these drifts of New Year bliss,
piled up with hopes, and dreams, and magical things to think about.
Let us walk in these snowy drifts together, let us celebrate God’s gifts of love and life,
and lacey winter days set apart, as if all the world were at peace for just a moment.
It is a new season, a New Year, and already the wishes are tumbling down on us;
It is as if the wishes were crafted by angels, designed with precision and grace.
The angels know things we cannot possibly know; they see a vision of what could be,
a frozen world thawing in springtime, love that heals broken hearts.
Snowy swans glide upon a winter lake, and we know they can take flight at any moment;
we watch them soar, understand the wonder of wings, and the chance to start yet again.
A New Year
It is almost time for a New Year to begin, a year full of endless possibilities. It is true enough that the world gives us much to be weary about, a load quite heavy to bear at times. We need not carry this load alone. God is ever- present and ever- ready to help us. This is the message of Christmas, that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was born in a lowly stable, and yet, He is the light of the world. This light extinguishes all darkness; it is a light that cannot fail, even when all seems dim.
I believe that within each of us there is a spark of heaven. When these sparks unite, it is a wondrous thing, as if a constellation of stars lit up the night sky. Yes, there is darkness, but God’s love has overcome it.
Like everyone else, I have many New Year’s wishes, but high on the list is a wish for each and every one of you reading this post today. If you are not already sure, I pray that you may know that God’s love and light is for you, His child. You are the bright spark that brings our Heavenly Father joy. You are the apple of His eye. May you dream a thousand new dreams, but may you know the One who fashioned your heart to dream at all, the One who loves you without end.
Happy New Year!
John 8:!2: “Again, Jesus spoke to them saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Luke 2: 10-14: “And the angel said to them, Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
Happy NEW Year, Linda! Blessings to you and your family!

Happy New Year! I am so glad our paths crossed as well…I feel quite blessed!!! π
Beautiful, Linda. Here’s to the happiest of years.
Thank you! Yes! I love your comment…”Here’s to the happiest of years!” That is a wonderful thing to think about…
Absolutely lovely Linda! We are to get snow this weekend and I’ll think of your opening wish, “. . .if snowflakes were to fall could they all be wishes, drifting, floating, swirling, like heavenly dreams come true?’ Happy New Year!
Thank you! I think it is a beautiful start to the New Year to have some snow!!! I just thought of the movie, “White Christmas”, when they all start singing about the snow…I love that part! Anyway, wishing you wishes come true in 2024!
Have a great new years beginnings Linda. If snowflakes were wishes we would get a lot of them here. snowing now. To believe and follow Jesus like a child makes those snowflake/wishes possible.
If we get snow, it is usually later in the season. We did have snow in early January last year. Yes, those snowflake wishes can come true! I think of the parable of the mustard seed…with faith in Jesus, the impossible becomes possible. Enjoy the snow!!!
such an awe inspiring post Linda … wishing you and yours good health, and joyful times as we launch into the unknown of 2024!
Wishing you all good things in this New Year 2024! It is always an exciting moment when the New Year begins…

Very awesome!!! π
I love your poem. From your pen to Godβs ears. Happy New Year!
Thank you! Happy New Year! You have much to look forward to!!! I am happy for you! π
Linda, thank you for reminding me about the magic of snow, the fresh beginning it seems to create, the purity and light it brings. A gentle hush seems to fall upon the Earth upon its arrival – then, well at least in the UK, the usual chaos!
Still a grey and cool start to the year here in England. Wishing you light, laughter and love for 2024 & always. Annika xx
I wish you the same…light, laughter, and love! We have had a lot of grey here also…I do love snow, but none of that as yet. Even without the snow, there is the magic of the New Year itself…a chance to start again, to make a new beginning. May January bring you many blessings, snow or no snow! π
I do love a new year and the feel of a fresh slate. Happy new year, hope 2024 is a good one for you x
Yes! It is a fresh slate! Wishing you a great start to the New Year 2024! π π π
Thank you for another BEAUTIFUL, thought-provoking post, Linda! I’ll have to pull this up and read it again tomorrow morning when we’re supposed to receive snow over a five-hour period–give or take. (I’ve written myself a reminder note!) Such heart-touching imagery you’ve created in your poem, considering each flake as a wish for heavenly dreams to come true. / With you, I pray that the spark of heaven within each person would respond to the Light of the world, Jesus Christ, and glow with the peace and joy of His presence!
Thank you for your thoughtful comment!!! I hope you enjoy the snow! We have rain today…Our wishes are raindrops in Virginia! Whatever the weather, blessings abound, and we are settling into a New Year 2024 with high hopes and prayers for peace throughout the world.
Well, the weather forecasters made much ado about nothing; we received a mere dusting!! But you’re right, whatever the weather, blessings abound! Today I’m thankful for delicious chicken soup–made by my husband!π

Happy New Year to you too Linda. I have always loved those verses of Luke chapter 2. I remember as a child memorizing them and reciting them. And your post was a wonderful reflection of some past Christmases.
I hope your New Year is off to a good start! We have sunshine here today and that is a wonderful thing! π
A beautiful reflection to start the new year and wonderful to read as we are in the middle of a snowstorm right now. Iβm watching snowflakes fall outside my window and thinking of your wordsβ¦ βif snowflakes were to fall could they all be wishes, drifting, floating, swirling, like heavenly dreams come true?β Great timing for me to read today and as you wrote we are β the bright spark that brings our Heavenly Father joy. Blessings to you in 2024. Iβm hoping to read more here and hopefully write more this year.
Thank you Nancy! We are supposed to get about an inch of snow this coming Tuesday. π I went to college in Indiana and we had so much snow. I hope you enjoy a lovely white winterland!!! Wishing you blessings in this New Year, 2024! I look forward to reading your wonderful posts!
How beautiful, Linda. I love the poem, your wishes for the new year as soft and graceful as the snow. Heavenly, and what a heartfelt prayer for peace in the world. That would be the greatest gift of all. Wishing you a wonderful new year with dreams come true.
Thank you!!! We are expecting some snow early this coming week. I am looking forward to it! I know my grandchildren would certainly enjoy playing in the snow. I wish you a wonderful new year as well! π
It’s snowing here (very icy though – I don’t know if a snowman is on the agenda).
We are still waiting for our snow!!! We had some flurries yesterday…A snowman sounds delightful! π

A belated Happy New Year, Linda. I thought I had commented here, but it looks like I didn’t.
Beautiful images.
We did get snow. It’s our first snowfall in two years. My husband remarked that there are toddlers in our area who’ve never snow before! Hope all is well with you and yours.
Happy New Year! I am glad you got some snow!!! We were hoping for some snow to stick, but we only got some brief flurries. Now, there is rain on the way again…Today is cold and sunny and I am happy to see some sunshine.
It is definitely good to see sunshine! π
