Morning Prayer

In the early morning hours when I awake, Jesus, be my breath; may I inhale the love you offer anew each day.

The lavender sky opens, revealing your awesome creation of sky and earth; I exhale the fears I hold in my heart.

I hear the sweet sound of birdsong; I remember that you call me by name.

I rise, knowing that you are there with me; I take deep breaths, knowing I must learn to pray and make every breath count.

I pray for the world that is seemingly falling apart, ravaged by pain and sickness; I pray for the suffering of those around me.

With every breath, may there be a new beginning; with every breath may we start again to live in love, to follow in your footsteps.

The sky is endlessly beautiful, an umbrella above us; heaven is closer than we know.

If only we can believe and do the work you have asked us to do; may our hearts catch the falling tears, and may the umbrella cover us in mercy.

Acts 1:8: “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

  1. You’re the first read this morning as I put the coffee on. Very refreshing, Linda. I didn’t feel like opening my heart to pray this morning with America’s ashes fall. God’s grip. – Alan
